Break-in investigation in Mahanoy City

Mahanoy City police are investigating a break-in at the former Mahanoy Area Middle School yesterday.

Three men, reportedly from Slatedale, Jim Thorpe and Lehighton, were apprehended after they were discovered inside the former school, according to the Pottsville Republican and Herald.

Police are not certain why the men were in the building, but they suspect that they may have been trying to steal copper and other items.

An aerial fire truck was called in to check the roof of the building, since police suspected that others may have been in the school as well. Reports indicate that another individual was taken into custody last night, but it is not known whether the apprehension was related to the break-in.

Additional details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
