08/15/06 POTTSVILLE CITY COUNCIL RESPONDS TO WOODGLENN ROAD CONCERNS
RESIDENTS WH0 LIVE ON WOODGLENN ROAD IN THE CITY OF POTTSVILLE AND HAVE RECENTLY VOICED THEIR CONCERNS OVER TRAFFIC PATTERN AND EXCESSIVE SPEEDING GOT A RESPONSE FROM POTTSVILLE CITY COUNCIL AT LAST EVENINGS MONTHLY MEETING. SINCE LAST MONTHS MEETING WHEN A PETION FROM WOODGLEN ROAD RESIDENTS WAS SUBMITTED TO MAYOR JOHN DW REILEY A SPEED LIMIT SIGN AND A WATCH CHILDREN SIGN HAVE BEEN PLACED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD TO COVER BOTH DIRECTIONS OF TRAFFIC. THE ACTION WAS DONE AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF POLICE CHIEF JOSEPH MURTON. MURTON ALSO RECOMMENDED PLACING THREE WAY STOP SIGNS AT THE INTERSECTION OF YORKTOWNE ROAD AND WOODGLEN ROAD.DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF SIDEWALKS AND CURBS THE SIGNS WILL HAVE TO BE ERECTED ON THE PROPERTY OF RESIDENTS ON WOODGLENN ROAD.
08/15/06 TWO VEHICLE CRASH IN FRIEDENSBURG
A TWO VEHICLE CRASH OCCURRED MONDAY AT THE FRIEDENSBURG FIRE COMPANY PARKING LOT ON ROUTE 443. ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE AT SCH. HAVEN 37 YEAR OLD KATHY SEARLE WAS TRAVELING WEST ON ROUTE 443 WHEN SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING RIGHT INTO THE FRIEDENBURG FIRE COMPANT PARKING LOT WHEN A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 42 YEAR OLD DAVID HOFFECKER ATTEMPTED TO PASS SEARLEāS VEHICLE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BEFORE SHE COULD COMPLETE THE TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT. HOFFEKERS VEHICLE IMPACTED THE RIGHT REAR OF SEARLE;S VEHICLE. HOFFECKER WILL BE CITED FOR CARELESS DRIVING AND DRIVING A VEHICLE AT AN UNSAFE SPEED.
08/15/06 CITY POLICE IN SEARCH FOR DRUG DEALER.
FELONY ARREST WARRANT HAVE BEEN OBTAINED BY THE POTTSVILLE POLICE DRUG INVESTAGATION UNIT FOR A MAN WANTED FOR ALLEGEDLY SELLING AND DELIVERING DRUGS IN THE CITY ON AUGUST 3RD. ACCORDING TO POLICE THEY ARE SEEKING THE WHEREABOUTS OF KEITH JAMES CULBERT 24 WHO IS ABOUT 5FT.7, 165 POUNDS WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLUE EYES. POLICE SAY CULBERT SOLD AN EIGHT BALL OF COCAINE TO A CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF AUGUST 3RD. IN THE AREA OF 14TH AND WEST NORWEGIAN STREETS. THEN THAT SAME DAY POLICE SAY CULBERT DELIVERED TWO OUNCES OF MARIJUANA AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF COCAINE IN THE 1300 BLOCK OF WEST NORWEGIAN STREET. AFTER THE SECOND FELONY DRUG DELIVERY POLICE SAY CULBERT WHO IS CURRENTLY ON STATE PAROLE IMMEDIATELY FLED THE AREA. THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING AND ADDITIONAL ARREST ARE EXPECTED.THE DRUG INVESTIGATION UNIT REMINDS CITIZENS TO CALL 622-1234 AND ACCESS MAILBOX 150 TO REPORT ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE SALE OF ILLEGAL DRUGS IN THE CITY.ANONYMOUS INFORMATION IS ACCEPTED BUT CALLBACK INFORMATION IS OF GREATER USE AND WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL.
08/15/06 BARNESVILLE MAN FACES HARASSMENT CHARGES
STATE POLICE AT FRACKVILLE REPORT THAT A BARNESVILLE MAN WILL BE CHARGED WITH HARASSMENT FOLLOWING AN INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED SATURDAY AFTERNOON. ACCORDING TO REPORTS 35 YEAR OLD EDWARD MCKENZIE OF BARNESVILLE WAS ARGUING WITH LAURA ANN MCKENZIE 34 OF THE SAME ADDRESS. DURING THE ARGUMENT POLICE SAY EDWARD MCKENZIE GRABBED THE WOMAN BY THE THROAT.A CITATION WILL BE FILED AGAINST EDWAED MCKENZIE BASED ON INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM LAURA ANN MCKENZIE.
08/15/06 ARSON IS SUSPECTED IN TWO FIRES IN THE CITY OF POTTSVILLE
A TWO ALARM BLAZE EARLY MONDAY MORNING HAS TURNED INTO AN ARSON INVESTIGATION. ACCORDING TO POTTSVILLE FIRE CHIEF TODD MARCH ,FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED TO A FIRE AT 14 S. EIGHTH STREET WHERE A FIRE BROKE OUT ON THE SECOND FLOOR.FIREFIGHTERS TENDED TO A SMALL FIRE BASEMENT FIRE SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE SAME BRICK ROW HOME.ACCORDING TO THE POTTSVILLE REPUBLICAN SATURDAY NIGHTS FIRE WAS QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED AND MARCH BELIEVES THE FIRE MONDAY MORNING WAS INTENTIONALLY SET AND SATURDAYS FIRE ALSO APPEARS SUSPICIOUS.MONDAYS BLAZE STARTED IN THE SECOND FLOOR BEDROOM AND SPREAD BACK AND NORTH THROUGH A SHARED ATTIC AND LOFT SPACE. THE 12 S. EIGHTH STREET HOME WAS VACANT AND THEIR WERE NO INJURIES RELATED TO EITHER FIRE. INVESTIGATORS FROM THE CITY FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS AS WELL AS STATE POLICE WERE COMBING THROUGH THE WRECKAGE MONDAY MORNING. THE OWNER OF THE BUILDING ,ANA FRACA OF HARRISON NEW JERSEY . FRACA DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE .SEVEN CITY FIRE COMPANIES RESPONDED AS WELL AS OUT OF TOWN COMPANIES AND SCH. HAVENS RAPID INTERVENTION TEAM .
