08/11/06 The first steps in the process of repairing a local church has been revealed.
THE FIRST STEPS IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRING ST. GEORGES ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN SHENADOAH HAS BEEN REVEALED. ACCORDING TO THE POTTSVILLE REPUBLICAN REV. BERNARD FLANIGAN REPORTED IN SUNDAYS CHURCH BULLETIN THAT THE FIGURES ARE IN FOR THE FIRST PHASE OF THE RENOVATION.THE PLANS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWN WITH THE COST FOR REPAIRS TOTALING APPROXIMATELY $220,000. REV. FLANIGAN SAYS HE IS AWAITING THEIR PERMISSION TO BEGIN.AN ORGANIZATION FORMED AFTER THE CHURCH WAS CLOSED IN MAY CALLED THE FRIENDS OF ST. GEORGE , PARISHONERS WHO ARE MAKING AN EFFORT TO REOPEN THE CHURCHWOULD LIKE TO ASK THE PASTOR QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS NEXT STEP.THE DIOCESE CLOSED THE 113 YEAR OLD CHURCH MAY14TH AFTER READING A STUDY ABOUT THE BUILDING,ITS CRUMBLING FAÇADE AND WATER DAMAGE THAT CAUSED ITS WALLPAPER TO DRAPE INSIDE.
08/11/06 GIRARDVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH HARASSMENT
STATE POLICE AT FRACKVILLE REPORT OF AN INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED MONDAY AFTERNOON AT A RESIDENCE ON RAILROAD STREET IN THE BOROUGH OF GIRADVILLE. TROOPERS SAY THAT THOMAS J.BISCOE 21 WAS ARESSTED AFTER HE WAS INVOLVED IN A VERBAL ARGUMENT WITH THOMAS G. BISCOE ALSO OF GIRADVILLE. THE ARGUMENT BECAME PHYSICAL RESULTING IN THE YOUNGER BISCOE ASSAULTING THOMAS G. BISCOE. THOMAS J. BISOE WILL FACE CHARGES BEFORE DISTRICT JUDGE BERNADETTE NAHAS.
08/11/06 Arrests made during recent checkpoint.
THE NORTH CENTRAL PA REGIONAL SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT AND EXPANDED DUI/UNDERAGE DRINKING ENFOREMENT PROGRAM CONDUCTED A ROVING DUI PATROL ON SUNDAY. A TOTAL OF 61 VEHICLES WERE CONTAINES WITH 3 DRIVERS BEING TESTED FOR DUI. ONE ADULT WAS ARRESTED FOR DUI AND THERE WERE SIX UNDERAGE DRINKING ARREST MADE. THERE WERE 36 OTHER TRAFFIC CITATIONS 12 CRIMINAL ARREST AND 21 WARNINGS. FOUR POLICE DEPARTMENTS PARTICIAPTED IN THE PATROL.

CAR ENTHUSIASTS KICKED OFF THE GREAT POTTSVILLE CRUISE WEEKEND WITH A CAR SHOW AND AUDIO CONTEST AT THE CONEY ISLAND IN YORKVILLE THURSDAY NIGHT. PARTICIPANTS CARS WERE JUDGED BY SOUND PRESSURE LEVELS INSIDE THEIR VEHICLES,SOUND QUALITY AND OVERALL APPEARANCE OF THE VEHICLE.DAVE CLEWS OF 12 VOLT DAVES AUDIO SAID THE EVENT WAS A PREVIEW TO SUNDAYS CRUSIN THUNDER EVENT WHICH HAS SIMILAR GUIDELINES TO THE SOUND OFF HOWEVER THE SCORING IS MUCH MORE IN DEPTH. CRUISE WEEKEND CONTINUES TONIGHT WITH A SOCK HOP FEATURING THE MUSIC OF SHAKE RATTLE AND SOUL WHICH WILL BE HELD AT PINE VIEW ACRES. SATURDAY FEATURES A SPECIAL TREAT AS THE BATMOBILE WILL APPEAR AT JERRYS CLASSIC CAR MUSEUM AND AN OLDIES BLOCK PARTY ON NORTH CENTER STREET. THEN ON SUNDAY IT’S A FULL DAY OF EVENTS AT MARTZ HALL WITH THE CRUISE ROLLING OUT AT 4PM. FIREWORKS AND THE DRAWING FOR THE CRUISE CAR FINISH OUT THE FOUR DAY EVENT.
