Cadau Challenges Goodman to Debates

Mahanoy City PA August 7-- On Friday August 4, 2006 Michael C. Cadau Republican Candidate for Representative of the 123rd Legislative District challenged State Representative Neal Goodman to a series of debates.

“Cadau mentioned that 2006 is the year of reform and it is imperative that Representative Goodman show up, debate and explain his actions.” In the past elections Goodman has sent a representative to debate his opponent. This past practice of sending a staff member in place of the “elected official” should not be tolerated by the voters of the 123rd district.

“Agreeing to a series of debates would ensure a complete discussion of the issues facing our area, and would be able to provide a public forum with media access that would help inform voters before the election”. Cadau said.

Cadau said “I requested that Goodman get back to me by August 14, to set-up these debates.”

Cadau believes the following topics of debate should be open for negotiation:

Dates Potential locations Topics

Week of 9/4 Gilberton Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Mgmt
and 1st responder needs of the district

Week of 9/11 Ryan Twp. Veterans Issues and Sportsman Issues

080706-Lawsuit withdrawn about paper ballots

A lawsuit filed in Schuylkill County Court about restoring the paper ballot voter system has been dropped.

The suit, brought by Edward Kleha, the chairman of the Schuylkill County Democratic Party and several others, was in response to the vote by the Schuylkill County Commissioners to purchase electronic voting systems for the May, 2006 primary.

The suit was dropped because the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that the Help America Vote Act, which was enacted in 2002, required the use of electronic voting machines at all elections, and that election laws do not provide for the separation of electing federal officials from the election for state and local officials by different methods.

Those that brought the suit contended that a paper ballot system provided for an audit trail if recounts were needed.

The electronic system from Diebold, Incorporated, will be used on November 7th, the date of the General Election.
