08/10/06 THE BOROUGH OF SCH. HAVEN IS TOASTING THE STATES DECISION ON A NEW LIQUOR STORE

THE LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD IS BUILDING A NEW WINE AND SPIRITS STORE IN THE BOROUGH. ACCORDING TO THE POTTSVILLE REPUBLICAN THE STORE WILL BE BUILT ON AN EMPTY LOT THAT FRONTS BOTH SOUTH GARFIELD AVENUE AND DOCK STREET. MBC DEVELOPMENT LP OF SCH HAVEN IS THE PROJECTS CONTRACTOR.ACCORDING TO JAMES MILLER PROJECT MANAGER, THE WORK SHOULD BEGIN SEPT. 1 AND HOPES TO HAVE THE STORE DONE BY THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS.THE PLAN TO BUILD THE STORE CAUSED CONTROVERSY AT BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS IN LATE 2005 OVER RESIDENTAL PARKING ON DOCK STREET. THE PLAN NOW CALLS FOR EIGHT OF THE 25 SPOTS AT THE SITE TO BE DESIGNATED AS PUBLIC PARKING FOR RESIDENTS.


08/10/06 CITY POLICE NAB MAN AFTER A HIT AND RUN INCIDENT

A SHENADOAH MAN WAS CHARGED WITH DUI,ACCIDENTS INVOLVING DAMAGE TO UNATTENDED VEHICLES,UNAUTHORIZED TRANSFER OF A REGISTRATION,LOITERING AND PROWLING AT NIGHT AND PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS. ACCORDING TO POTTSVILLE POLICE 51 YEAR OLD JOHN OUSCHICK OF SHENADOAH WAS TRAVELING ON RIDGE STREET AND PULLED OUT FROM A STOP SIGN AND INTO THE PATH OF A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 32 YEAROLD JASON MCCLURE OF CUMBOLA WHILE HE WAS TRAVELING EAST ON NORWEGIAN STREET. POLICE SAY THE REGISTRATION PLATE ON THE VAN DRIVEN BY OUSCHICK WAS REGISTERED TO A DIFFERENT VEHICLE. OUSCHICK FLED THE SCENE AND RAN THROUGH SEVERAL YARDS IN THE 600 BLOCK OF RIDGE AVENUE WHILE BEING PURSUED BY OFFICERS WHO WERE ABLE TO LOCATE HIM SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY FROM HIS VEHICLE.OUSCHICK WAS COMMITED TO SCH. COUNTY PRISON UNABLE TO POST 10 PERCENT OF $20,000 BAIL .


08/10/06 DRIVER IDENTIFIED IN CITY CRASH

POTTSVILLE POLICE HAVE RELEASED DETAILS ABOUT AN ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED TUESDAY NIGHT ON PEACOCK STREET. ACCORDING TO REPORTS 36 YEAR OLD FREDERICK MARKKS OF CRESSONA WAS TRAVELING EAST WHEN HIS VEHICLE CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND STRUCK A ULTILITY POLE . THE POLE WAS SHEARED FROM THE GROUND AND STRUCK SEVERAL VEHILES PARKED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE STREET. PEACOCK STREET WAS CLOSED OVERNIGHT AS PPL CREWS MADE REPAIRS TO THE DAMAGE.


08/10 06 A WOMAN WAS ROBBED YESTERDAY AT THE SCH. MALL

STATE POLICE AT FRACKVILLE ARE LOOKING FOR 2 MEN WHO ROBBED A WOMAN IN THE SCH. MALL PARKING LOT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED NEAR THE MOVIE THEATER ENTRANCE OF THE MALL. ACCORDING TO POLICE A 21 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS WALKING TO HER VEHICLE WHEN SHE WAS APPROACHED BY TWO MEN WHO FORCIBLY TOOK HER MONEY THEN FLED THE SCENE.ONE OF THE MEN IS DESCRIBED AS BEING IN HIS EARLY 50S WITH SHORT GREY HAIR ABOUT 6FT TALL AND WEARING JEANS AND A T-SHIRT. THE SECOND MAN IS DESCRIBED AS BEING IN HIS EARLY 20S WITH SHORT BLONDE HAIR WITH A SHORT BUILD AND WAS WEARING BLUE JEANS AND A DARK T-SHIRT AND A CAMOUFLAGE HAT. POLICE ASK ANYONE WITH INFORMATION TO CALL STAE POLCE AT FRACKVILLE AT 874-5300. ALL INFORMATION WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL.


08/09/06 A MAHANOY PLANE MAN IS ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT

A MAHANOY PLANE MAN WAS CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING HIS WIFE MONDAY MORNING. 34 YEAR OLD GERALD BARRY JR. ASSAULTED 30 YEAROLD JENINE BARRY AT THEIR HOME IN THE BOROUGH OF GILBERTON. STAE POLCE AR FRACKVILLE REPORT THAT THE VICTIM WAS INTERVIEWED AT THE ASHLAND HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. TROOPERS OBSERVED PHYSICAL INJURIES TO JENINE BARRY. GERALD BARRY WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND CHARGED WITH SIMPLE ASSAULT,TERRORISTICS THREATS AND HARRASMENT. BARRY WAS ARRAIGNED BEFORE DISTRICT JUDGE BENADETTE HANAS AND COMMITED TO SCH. COUNTY PRISON IN LUI OF $15,000 BAIL.


08/08/06 DRUG INVESTAGATION RESULTS IN ARREST

A 40 YEAR OLD READING MAN WAS ARESTED IN SUMMIT SATION ON DRUG CHARGES AS THE RESULT OF INVESTAGATIONS WHICH OCCURRED DURING THE EARLY PART OF MAY 2006 BY MEMBERS OF THE SCH. COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS DRUG ENFORCEMENT UNIT. 40 YEAR OLD FREDERICK MORROW OF READING HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH OF DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE,POSSESION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER A CONTOLLED SUBSTANCE AND CRIMAINAL CONSPIRACY .MORROW WAS ARRAIGNED BEFORE DISTRICT JUDGE DAVID PLACHKO .BEING UNABLE TO POST BAIL MORROW WAS COMMITED TO SCH. COUNTY PRISON.


08/08/06 CITY CRASH CAUSES POWER OUTAGE

ACCORDING TO POTTSVILLE POLICE AN ALLEGEDLY INTOXICATED MAN DROVE HIS VEHICLE INTO A UTILITY POLE ON PEACOCK STREET AROUND 10 PM TUESDAY NIGHT KNOCKING DOWN THE POLE SENDING ELECTRICAL WIRES INTO THE STREET AND CAUSING A POOL OF UNIDENTIFIED FLUID TO APPEAR BENEATH THE VEHICLE.THE DRIVERS IDENITY COULD NOT BE CONFIRMED AND THERE WAS NO CONFIRMATION OF ANY OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE.PPL UTILITIES ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND FIREMEN NOTIFIED RESIDENTS THAT 2 TRANSFORMERS WOULD BE SHUT OFF AND POWER WOULD BE OUT FOR AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF TIME.ACCORDING TO OFFICALS IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST A FEW HOURS TO PUT UP THE NEW POLE AND REPAIR WIRE DAMAGES.
