Wednesday was Ethnic Day at the Schuylkill County Fair.
Fair officials wanted to provide a change of pace for fairgoers this year, with a salute to Schuylkill County's ethnic heritage.
While the heat and humidity kept attendance down, those that did come to the fair enjoyed a number of activities, including an ethnic cooking contest. Three categories of dishes were featured, a meat dish, a vegetable and a desert.
Heidi Neidlinger won in the ethnic meat and vegetable category, and Mary Ellen Miller prepared the winning desert.
Thursday is Dairy Day, celebrating one of Schuylkill County's major economic drivers. Entertainment features oldies band Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods at 7pm, and rock and roll great Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge in the nightcap performance at 9pm.
The Schuylkill County Fairgrounds are located on Route 895, in Summit Station.
