Follow up on Mahanoy break-in

Two people were arrested following the break-in at the former Mahanoy Area middle school.

In a story we told you about yesterday, several people were apprehended after they were found inside the former school building.

Mahanoy City police say that Linda Neff of Jim Thorpe and Harley McFarland of Lehighton were charged with burglary, criminal trespass and related offenses in the crime. Police recovered nearly 300 pounds of copper piping from the building in a vehicle near the crime scene. They were taken to Schuylkill County Prison following arraignment.

Police say that the piping came from inside the vacant building, was intended to be sold for cash. Thefts of this nature have been more and more commonplace as the price of copper has risen.
