State News-Friday, Feb. 16th
HAMBURG, Pa. (AP) - They're still trying to reopen major highways in eastern Pennsylvania from the big snow and ice storm. Hundreds of motorists were stranded on a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 78, forcing parts of I-80 and I-81 to close as well. Motorists complain that entrance ramps remained open even though no
one was moving.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid is slated to surrender today to police in Plymouth Township. Garrett Reid is charged with 14 offenses stemming from a traffic accident on January 30th. Authorities say a second son, 21-year-old Britt Reid, will waive a preliminary hearing on charges from a road rage encounter.
WASHINGTON (AP) - A critic of the Iraq war thinks he's got an idea for stopping the troop buildup -- an idea better than the non-binding resolution up for a House vote today. Democratic Congressman John Murtha of Pennsylvania chairs the House panel overseeing military spending. His plan involves troop training and
rest for soldiers.
YORK, Pa. (AP) - Talks have resumed between motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson and the union representing workers at its largest factory -- near York. But there's still no resolution to the nearly
two-week-old strike. Both sides are scheduled to meet again today. A company spokesman says progress was made during yesterday's session.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says the David L. Lawrence Convention Center is safe and that a floor collapse earlier this month was an isolated incident. A team of independent engineers checked out the building after a 20-by-60-foot concrete floor slab collapsed in a loading dock area
on February fifth.
