CAPITOL HILL (AP) - One House Republican says President Bush's troop buildup in Iraq won't make the country more stable. But another Republican says a vote in favor of a resolution that opposes Bush's policy is tantamount to poking the president in the eye. House passage is expected this afternoon.
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Al-Qaida has posted a video on the Internet that it says shows an insurgent attack on U-S and Afghan forces. The video appeared on an Islamic Web site known for hosting extremist material. It comes as more U-S troops are headed to Afghanistan to fight a resurgent Taliban.
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Police in Newington, Connecticut, say they have prevented an attack on a high school. A 16-year-old Newington High junior is accused of making bombs that he intended to use against his classmates. Police learned of the plot from a video on YouTube that showed students firing weapons and igniting explosives.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A hearing to decide Anna Nicole Smith's final resting place continues today in Florida. Her companion wants to take her body to the Bahamas for burial. Her mother wants her buried in Texas. Smith died in Florida eight days ago.
HONG KONG (AP) - The Chinese are about to usher in the Year of the Pig. It's lucky for those born in the year of the pig but not so lucky for the rest of us. Chinese fortunetellers predict it won't be very peaceful, with epidemics, disasters and violence in much of the world.
