WHITE HOUSE (AP) - Army troops in Georgia get a visit today from President Bush, who announced last night more than 21-thousand additional troops will be going to Iraq. Bush said in a prime-time address there would be "unimaginable" killing in Iraq if American forces leave.
CAPITOL HILL (AP) - Some Republicans on Capitol Hill say Americans need to give President Bush's ideas on Iraq time to work. But skeptical lawmakers say sending more troops gives the wrong message when Iraqis need to solve their own sectarian problems. Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska calls Iraq an "unwinnable swamp."
CAPITOL HILL (AP) - Next stop for a bill to boost the minimum wage is the Senate, where Democrats intend to make it easier for business to swallow. They say they'll add (b) billions in tax breaks to the measure. The House voted to hike the minimum wage by two-ten an hour over 26 months.
HOUSTON (AP) - It'll be next week before a truck driver learns if he will face execution for the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants. A Texas jury has deliberated 14 hours over two days in the case of Tyrone Williams. The victims were crammed inside his sweltering tractor-trailer in 2003.
NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Daily News reports that Barry Bonds failed a test for amphetamines last season and originally blamed it on a teammate. The San Francisco Giants slugger has always maintained he never tested positive for illegal drugs. He's under investigation for lying about steroid use.
