WHITE HOUSE (AP) - Tonight's the night the nation hears President Bush present his new plan for Iraq. Those who've been briefed say he'll call for the deployment of up to 20-thousand additional troops. A White House spokesman says the president recognizes that it's important to bring the public back to the war.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Somalia's government is calling on American ground forces to flush out remaining extremists after saying Monday's U-S airstrikes killed a senior al-Qaida suspect. The man was wanted for U-S embassy bombings in East Africa that killed 225 people.

CAPITOL HILL (AP) - House Democrats take up another one of their campaign promises today when they consider a more than 20 percent increase in the minimum wage over two years. It would eventually settle at seven-25 an hour. Sponsor George Miller of California says the increase is "desperately" needed.

CAPITOL HILL (AP) - Senator Edward Kennedy says everyone should have health care. The new chairman of the Senate committee that oversees health issues says the government should follow the lead of his home state of Massachusetts, which became the first state to require everyone to have health insurance.

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - Sudan's president is rejecting the use of United Nations forces to maintain order in Darfur. Omar al-Bashir has been under intense international pressure to allow U-N peacekeepers to help bring stability to the region.
