ASHLAND FIRE UPDATE-2:45PM WEDNESDAY



ASHLAND FIRE

AN ASHLAND BUSINESS AND MORE THAN A HALF DOZEN HOMES ARE IN RUIN FOLLOWING A MIDDAY FIRE. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT AT 1320 AND 1322 CENTRE STREET BEFORE 11AM. ASHLAND FIRE CHIEF PHILLIP GROODY EXPLAINS:

THE FIRE SPREAD TO ADJOINING PROPERTIES, INCLUDING THE DRUNKEN MONKEY BAR, AND HOMES ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE STREET. ONE MAN WAS BURNED AND FLOWN TO GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER AND ANOTHER TAKEN TO ST CATHERINE'S MEDICAL CENTER FOR A NON-RELATED INJURY DUE TO A SEIZURE. FIRE CREWS FROM ASHLAND AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, PLUS NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY FOUGHT THE BLAZE AND HOT SPOTS ARE STILL BEING EXTINGUISHED AT THIS HOUR. THE RED CROSS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS WERE ON SCENE TO AID FIREFIGHTERS. THE STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL IS BEING CALLED IN TO INVESTIGATE.
