THEATRE IN MALL MAY REOPEN
 
THE RECENTLY CLOSED THEATRE IN THE SCHUYLKILL MALL MAY BE REOPENED BY THE HOLIDAY SEASON. ACCORDING TO REPORTS IN THE REPUBLICAN AND HERALD, THE MALLS OWNER, EMPIRE SCHUYLKILL LP BASED OUT OF PHILADELPHIA PURCHASED EVERYTHING IN THE THEATRE EXCEPT THE THINGS THAT WERE EXCLUSIVELY OWNED BY THE FORMER TENANT REGAL ENTERTAINMENT. MALL OFFICIALS STATED THAT THERE ARE THREE PARTIES INTERESTED IN RUNNING THE FOUR SCREEN COMPLEX THAT BEGAN OPERATIONS IN 1980 WHEN THE MALL OPENED. A NAME HAS BEEN KICKED AROUND HOWEVER THAT IS UNSETTLED AS OF NOW.
 
CLEAN UP AT OLDEST MEDAL OF HONOR SITE

VOLUNTEERS FROM SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA JOINED A CHESTER COUNTY LAWMAKER ON FRIDAY FOR THE FIRST DAY OF A THREE DAY CLEANUP EFFORT AT THE NATION'S OLDEST MEMORIAL SITE DEDICATED TO MEDAL OF HONOR RECEIPIENTS. HOWARD ONDICK HAS THIS REPORT.

MEDIA, Pa. (AP) - An elderly man has pleaded not guilty to charges he fatally stabbed his wife, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Police said Earnest Rayfield stabbed his wife in the chest
after going into her room to see if she wanted breakfast and she repeatedly told him to leave their home. Defense attorney Scott O'Keefe said Rayfield was overwhelmed.

READING, Pa. (AP) - A cook has been charged with stabbing another cook with a kitchen knife. Police say patrons were eating in O'Grady's Family Restaurant in Muhlenberg Township when Alfredo Payez-Palma stabbed his 35-year-old co-worker Roman Avila-Sanchez. Payez-Palma was being held in Berks County Prison on attempted homicide and related charges.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News are starting a new era under the control of their former creditors. The lenders include the hedge fund Angelo, Gordon & Co., which also has stakes in several other U.S. newspapers. The creditors posted $105 million in cash Friday to buy the company.

SHALER, Pa. (AP) - One man is dead and another critically wounded after police near Pittsburgh say they shot one another during an alcohol-fueled argument that began while they were target shooting off a porch. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the dead man as 56-year-old Alan Benko.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says returning control of Congress to Republicans risks cuts in education spending and threatens the country's economic future. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says a quality education is paramount. He suggested that federal spending on education is one area where he won't compromise.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republicans are accusing President Barack Obama and Democrats of broken promises on jobs, the economy and health care. In the weekly GOP radio and Internet address, Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, criticized Democratic leaders for sending lawmakers home for the elections without voting on a series of expiring Bush-era tax cuts. He says they should all be extended.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's nuclear chief says Tehran has increased worker privileges and security to eliminate an espionage problem at its nuclear facilities. Ali Akbar Salehi says personnel at the country's nuclear facilities were lured by promises of better pay to pass secrets to the West. It's viewed as a stunning admission that Iran has been fighting nuclear espionage.

AJKA, Hungary (AP) - Hungary's premier says a weakened wall of a red sludge reservoir which burst and flooded several towns with toxic waste is "very likely" to collapse. He says it's showing
ever-larger cracks and the town which sits next to the reservoir and was badly damaged in Monday's flood, was evacuated early today.

BERLIN (AP) - A car ferry remains ablaze after an explosion in the Baltic sea but German authorities say all 200 people aboard have been rescued. There were three reported injuries. Authorities say other ships rushed to the scene to help evacuate the passengers and crew of the Lithuanian-flagged Lisco Gloria after the midnight explosion.
