Fire crews are still on the scene of an early morning structure fire in the Borough of Shenandoah. The Shenandoah Fire Department along with several surrounding fire companies were dispatched around 2:10 this morning to 514 West Centre Street in the Borough. Upon their arrival they were met with a large volume of fire. Reports from the scene confirm that several buildings were damaged by either flames, smoke and water. All occupants of the homes were reported to escape.
With the beginning of archery season today the Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking hunters to consider participating in the Commonwealth's Hunters Sharing Harvest Program. Those hunters who are successful this season can help out needy families by donating venison to local food banks and soup kitchens. The program started in 1991 and has since helped deliver 200,000 meals to churches, social services feeding programs, and food banks. Those who are interested in getting involved can visit the Game Commission's website at www.pgc.state.pa.us.
The Schuylkill County Election Bureau has released a list of reminders for the upcoming November General Election. Monday, October 4th is the last day to register to be eligible to vote in the election. Applications to vote by absentee ballot are due no later than 5 p.m. on October 26th.
House Republicans fight for local communities in shale-affected areas, a measure passes the House to allow voters to eliminate Jury Commissioners and tougher sentencing for multiple offenses of child sex abuse it all happened this week in Harrisburg and Chuck Nichols has this report.

A Lehigh Valley lawmaker is proposing legislation that would prohibit people from using their unemployment compensation debit card to withdraw money at ATMs in Pennsylvania casinos. Howard Ondick has this report.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A suburban Philadelphia lawyer has been convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old male Russian ballet dancer. Prosecutors say Kenneth Schneider, of Berwyn, moved the boy into his Moscow apartment in 1998, paid for his ballet school and had a sexual relationship with him for years. Schneider faces 25 years in prison.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Giving Governor Ed Rendell a week's notice, the director of the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security has quit -- saying the decision came after reflecting on the uproar over anti-terror alert bulletins. James Powers submitted his letter of resignation, effective next Thursday.
ATWOOD, Pa. (AP) - One person is hurt after a house exploded in western Pennsylvania. Authorities in Armstrong County say the person was inside the home in the Pittsburgh suburb of Atwood when it exploded yesterday afternoon. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the injured person was flown to the hospital. The victim's identity and condition are unknown.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A suburban Pittsburgh man who buried his dead housemate in their back yard will spend 3 1/2 years on probation for cashing her Social Security checks worth nearly $34,000. Kenneth Zang, of Turtle Creek, told authorities he buried Mary Whetsell in the yard because he couldn't afford a funeral.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Republicans continue to pound away at government spending under the Democrats. In the weekly GOP media address, Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky also criticized Democrats for recessing Congress without acting to extend the Bush-era tax cuts. They won't be considered until after the elections.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is warning against a return to what he calls "the failed energy policies that profited the oil companies but weakened our country." In the weekly media address, Obama tries to make a case for his clean energy incentives. He says they are essential for the country's environment and economic security.

labor, civil rights and other groups rally at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial a month ahead of the midterm elections. More than 400 organizations are involved.
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistani intelligence officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, say four U.S. missiles struck a house today in the North Waziristan tribal region. The strike
killed eight suspected militants and sent a signal the U.S. is unwilling to stop using the unpopular tactic despite heightened tensions with Pakistan.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - Indonesian authorities say dozens of people have been killed and dozens more injured in a train crash in Java province. At least 36 people were killed when a train slammed into an idled train at a station, causing severe damage to both. One person is said to have died in a second train wreck.
