ELECTION 2009-8PM TUESDAY
Good evening…this is News Director Jay Levan….voting in Election 2009 is finished, with the polls closing just a few minutes ago at 8pm. Spot polling indicates that voting in some areas of Schuylkill County was brisk throughout the day, while other parts were reported light to normal for an off year election. Among the races we'll be watching tonight are the state Judicial races, as voters were asked to pick four candidates for Judge of the Superior Court from 9 candidates, two Judges for the Commonwealth Court from four candidates, and a Judge each seeking retention to the Superior and Commonwealth Courts.
Locally, the races for District Attorney, pitting incumbent Jim Goodman against Christine Holman has been a contentious one since the May primary. Sheriff Joseph Groody, a Democrat, is seeking his own 4 year term against retired Pottsville Police Chief Dale Repp.
Several Mayoral races, in Pottsville City, Tamaqua, Frackville, Minersville and Port Carbon are contested. Numerous borough council races and school board contests are contested, and a large write in vote effort in the North Schuylkill School District could prove interesting. We won't know the result of the write in votes for several days, but a fairly clear picture should be evident by night's end.
As tabulation of votes are completed at the STS building in St Clair, we'll have updates right here on T102 and WPPA.
