LOTTERY SCAM WARNING

ST CLAIR POLICE ARE WARNING RESIDENTS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A MAIL SCAM. A BOROUGH RESIDENT RECEIVED A LETTER AND A CHECK FOR $47-HUNDRED-DOLLARS FROM CAN EQUITY INVESTMENT, TELLING HER SHE WON A LOTTERY IN CANADA. THE LETTER WAS AN APPARENT SCAM AND THE WOMAN TOLD NOT TO CASH THE CHECK. SHOULD YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF FRAUDULENT SOLICITATION, CALL POLICE.

NEW VISITORS BUREAU DIRECTOR NAMED

THE SCHUYLKILL COUNTY VISITORS BUREAU HAS NAMED A NEW DIRECTOR. REGINA GARGANO OF POTTSVILLE, FORMERLY WORKED FOR SCHUYLKILL COUNTY CHILD DEVELOPMENT, AND WILL FILL THE SPOT FORMERLY HELD BY MARK MAJOR OF POTTSVILLE, WHO ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION IN AUGUST. GARGANO BEGINS HER NEW ROLE IN MID NOVEMBER.

WOMAN CHARGED IN POTTSVILLE INCIDENT

A POTTSVILLE WOMAN IS JAILED FOLLOWING A DOMESTIC DISPUTE IN THE CITY TUESDAY NIGHT. POTTSVILLE POLICE SAY EDNA SHAY AND JOHN KAMANT WERE INVOLVED IN AN ARGUMENT, WITH SHAY THROWING AN ASHTRAY AND STRIKING HIM IN THE MOUTH. KAMANT NEEDED MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THE INJURIES. A SMALL AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA WAS ALSO FOUND. SHAY WAS CHARGED WITH SIMPLE ASSAULT AND POT POSSESSION AND WAS JAILED ON $10-THOUSAND-DOLLARS BAIL.

CITY MAN FACES STATE PRISON TIME

A POTTSVILLE MAN IS HEADED FOR STATE PRISON ON CHARGES THAT HE FAILED TO CARE FOR AN ELDERLY WOMAN. 52 YEAR OLD ARTHUR DEITER PLEADED GUILTY TO CHARGES OF INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER AND RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT LAST MONTH. HE FAILED TO CARE FOR 69 YEAR OLD JOANNE WEIDER, NOT FEEDING HER AND PROVIDING ADEQUATE MEDICAL CARE. ACCORDING TO THE REPUBLICAN HERALD, DEITER WILL SPEND ONE TO TWO YEARS IN STATE PRISON, BEGINNING NOVEMBER 6TH.

AUTHORITIES SAY JOHN WALTON JR. WENT TO COCCIA FORD NEAR WILKES-BARRE, TOOK THE SALESMAN ON RIDE OF OVER 100 MILES PER HOUR AND BURNED THE VEHICLE. WALTON IS CHARGED WITH MAKING THREATS, ARSON AND OTHER CHARGES.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - AN ATTORNEY FOR A WOMAN CHARGED IN THE DEATH OF A 10-YEAR-OLD PHILADELPHIA GIRL SAYS THE VICTIM'S FATHER IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CRIME.AUTHORITIES SAY CHARLEENI FERREIRA DIED LAST WEEK OF INJURIES SUFFERED THROUGH REPEATED ABUSE. HER FATHER, DOMINGO FERREIRA, AND STEPMOTHER, MARGARITO GARABITO, HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER.

THE BILL IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT ANOTHER LEHMAN BROTHERS-LIKE COLLAPSE.
