DRUG POSSESSION AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

A SCHUYLKILL HAVEN MAN IS CHARGED WITH DRUG RELATED OFFENSES FOLLOWING A TRAFFIC STOP EARLIER THIS WEEK IN ST CLAIR. 29 YEAR OLD RYAN WINKLER WAS STOPPED ON ROUTE 61 AND ANN STREET, AND STATE TROOPERS OBSERVED MARIJUANA INSIDE HIS CAR. CRIMINAL CHARGES WERE FILED IN DISTRICT COURT. BUT WINKLER’S PROBLEMS DIDN’T END THERE. HE WENT TO THE STATE POLICE BARRACKS AT FRACKVILLE TO REMOVE SOMETHING FROM HIS CAR. IN ADDITION TO THE DRUG COUNTS, WINKLER ALSO FACES CHARGES OF TAMPERING WITH PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. HE’S LODGED IN THE SCHUYLKILL COUNTY PRISON.

(AP) - A GRAND JURY REPORT SAYS A SCRANTON WOMAN PLACED A 15-YEAR-OLD NIGERIAN EXCHANGE STUDENT IN A HOME WHERE SHE GOT SO LITTLE TO EAT THAT SHE PASSED OUT AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THAT'S JUST ONE OF THE STORIES TOLD ABOUT EDNA BURGETTE. SHE FACES 5 FELONY COUNTS RELATED TO THE PLACEMENT OF TEENAGERS IN NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA.

ALLENTOWN, PA. (AP) - THE PENNSYLVANIA SUPREME COURT HAS RULED THAT COURT RECORDS OF JUVENILES WHO ARE SUING A CORRUPT JUDGE, MUST BE PRESERVED. THE COURT HAD PREVIOUSLY SAID THE RECORDS SHOULD BE DESTROYED, PROMPTING COMPLAINTS. ATTORNEYS FOR THE JUVENILES SAID LOSS OF THE RECORDS COULD IMPERIL THE YOUTHS' ABILITY TO RECOVER DAMAGES FROM THE JUDGE AND OTHERS.

HARRISBURG, PA. (AP) - PENNSYLVANIA GOV. ED RENDELL SAYS ALTHOUGH IT'S PAINFUL FOR STATE WORKERS TO LOSE OUT ON THEIR PAY TEMPORARILY, IT'S BETTER THAN LOSING THEIR JOBS. THE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR SAYS IF THE BUDGET PLAN FAVORED BY SENATE REPUBLICANS HAD PASSED, ABOUT 2,000 TO 2,500 STATE EMPLOYEES WOULD BE PERMANENTLY LAID OFF.

MORRISVILLE, PA. (AP) - POLICE SAY A FIRE AT A MOTEL MIGHT HAVE BEEN STARTED TO DESTROY EVIDENCE FROM A SEXUAL ASSAULT. A WOMAN TOLD COPS THAT A MAN SHE MET DROVE HER TO A MOTEL IN MORRISVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA. SHE SAYS THE MAN FORCED HER INTO A ROOM AT GUNPOINT AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER. POLICE BELIEVE THE MAN STARTED A FIRETO COVER UP THE CRIME.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - THE PARENTS OF A TODDLER WHO DIED FROM BEING LEFT IN A HOT VAN OUTSIDE A PHILADELPHIA-AREA DAY CARE FACILITY, ARE SUING THE CENTER AND ITS OWNERS. THE PARENTS OF 2-YEAR-OLD DANIEL SLUTSKY ARE SUING FAIRY TALES DAYCARE CENTER IN PENNDEL. THEIR LAWYER SAYS THE SUIT IS TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THE PROBLEM AND PREVENT SIMILAR DEATHS IN THE FUTURE.

THE MAN'S GUARDIAN IS SUING THE HOSPITAL FOR ESSENTIALLY DEPORTING HIS COUSIN, AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WHOSE HEALTH CARE COST THE HOSPITAL MORE THAN $1.5 MILLION DOLLARS.
