BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Two American soldiers have been killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq. The deaths this morning bring to 18 the number of U-S troops killed so far this month. Earlier today, the military announced three more combat deaths.
UNDATED (AP) - President Bush has hailed the conviction of Saddam Hussein as a victory for Iraq's young democracy. Democrats, too, praise the outcome of the trial. But House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the conviction doesn't change the contention that Bush's policy in Iraq is a failure.
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) - Preliminary results show former Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega has a strong enough lead to return to power as Nicaragua's president without a runoff election. Ortega says he's no longer the Marxist revolutionary who fought U-S-backed Contra rebels.
WASHINGTON (AP) - It's not too late to volunteer to work the polls on Election Day. The national Election Assistance Commission says some places still need workers, so call your local election board today.
