QUARRYVILLE, Pa. (AP) - The man who killed five Amish schoolgirls wrote that he was "filled with so much hate" and "unimaginable emptiness." Authorities say Charles Roberts had planned his siege for nearly a week. They say Roberts claimed to be a child molester, and was haunted by the death of a daughter shortly after birth.
WASHINGTON (AP) - It may prove difficult to make a federal case out of former Congressman Mark Foley's online conversations with teenage male pages. One former F-B-I agent says graphic talk alone is rarely enough to warrant charges. His attorney says Foley never had sex with a minor.
SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - A hearing resumes in California today on a defense request to dismiss child pornography charges against former JonBenet Ramsey slaying suspect John Karr. Karr's lawyers say the prosecution withheld evidence that might have led to dismissal of the charges.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A top South Korean security official says there is no sign that a North Korean nuclear test is imminent. North Korea says it intends to detonate a bomb as part of its efforts to defend itself from a U-S attack.
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Two American pilots have been ordered to remain in Brazil while authorities investigate whether they caused last week's midair collision that killed 155 people. There are reports that they disobeyed an order to descend to a lower altitude.
