VEHICLE ACCIDENT

POLICE ARE NOW INVESTIGATING A VEHICLE ACCIDENT THAT TOOK PLACE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. OFFICER SGT. DEWALD WAS ON PATROL WHILE COMING ACROSS A VAN WHICH HAD ROLLED ONTO IT'S PASSENGER SIDE IN A LANDSCAPED AREA OF THE PEACOCK STREET PROJECT. THE VAN HIT A SMALL TREE AND A LAMP POST, PULLING IT'S CONCRETE BASE FROM THE GROUND. TWO PEOPLE WERE FOUND INSIDE THE VAN. 27-YEAR-OLD PETER CLIVE AND 32-YEAR-OLD JENNIFER JALBERT BOTH OF SAINT CLAIR. POTTSVILLE FIRE UNITS WERE REQUESTED TO ASSIST IN EXTRICATING THE TWO FROM THE VEHICLE. BOTH CLIVE AND JALBERT WERE TRANSPORTED TO SCHUYLKILL MEDICAL CENTER SOUTH FOR TREATMENT OF INJURIES AND THEN RELEASED.

ATTEMPTED CRIMINAL HOMICIDE

POTTSVILLE POLICE WERE INVOLVED IN A VEHICLE PURSUIT WHICH RESULTED IN A ONE CAR ACCIDENT SATURDAY AROUND 11PM. OFFICERS TRIED TO STOP THOMAS CUNNINGHAM OF SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AFTER THEY SAW HIM REVVING HIS ENGINE AND THEN DRIVING HIS CAR IN REVERSE AT A HIGH SPEED ON THE 100 BLOCK OF SOUTH PROGRESS AVENUE. CUNNINGHAM REFUSED TO STOP DROVE ONTO UNION STREET. DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, UNION STREET IS CLOSED WITH TEMPORARY FENCING, BUT THAT DIDN'T STOP CUNNINGHAM. HE THEN DROVE HIS VEHICLE THROUGH THE FENCING CAUSING HEAVY DAMAGE. THAT'S WHEN ADDITIONAL POLICE CAME TO HELP. CUNNINGHAM AGAIN TRIED TO ESCAPE POLICE AND INSTEAD CRASHED INTO A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHEN OFFICERS MOVED INTO POSITION TO REMOVE CUNNINGHAM FROM HIS TRUCK, HE BEGAN USING HIS VEHICLE AS A WEAPON TO STRIKE OFFICERS. POLICE WERE REQUIRED TO USE FORCE TO STOP CUNNINGHAM WHO WAS LATER ARRAIGNED FOR CRIMINAL ATTEMPT TO HOMICIDE AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE AMONG OTHER CHARGES. CUNNINGHAM WAS UNABLE TO POST THE $200,000 STRAIGHT CASH BAIL AND NOW SITS IN SCHUYLKILL COUNTY PRISON.
 
MOTOR COACH SAFETY WEEK

THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE, PENNSYLVANIA PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION AND MUNICIPAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES WILL CONDUCT SAFETY INSPECTIONS OF MOTOR COACHES AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS AROUND THE STATE DURING MOTOR COACH SAFETY WEEK, NOVEMBER 12-19. THIS WILL BE A LARGE SCALE EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLES ARE FREE OF SAFETY HAZARDS AND REACH THEIR DESTINATIONS SAFELY.

IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP PENNSYLVANIA'S HIGHWAYS SAFE DURING THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY, PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE NATIONAL "CLICK IT OR TICKET" CAMPAIGN FROM NOVEMBER 15-27. IF A DRIVER IS STOPPED, AND ANYONE IN THE VEHICLE IS NOT PROPERLY RESTRAINED, THE DRIVER CAN RECIEVE TWO CITATIONS. DURING THE CAMPAIGN TROOPERS WILL ALSO BE OFFERING FREE CHILD PASSENGER SEAT INSPECTIONS.

EASTON, PA. (AP) - AN NORTHAMPTON COUNTY JURY HAS FOUND A NEW YORK MAN GUILTY OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER IN THE DEATH OF THE TODDLER SON OF HIS FORMER GIRLFRIEND TWO YEARS AGO. EUGENIO TORRES IS CONVICTED IN THE JULY 2008 DEATH OF 3-YEAR-OLD ELIJAH STRICKLAND. PROSECUTORS SAY TORRES BEAT AND TORTURED STRICKLAND TO DEATH AT THE HOME HE SHARED WITH THE BOY AND HIS MOTHER IN WILSON.

MEADVILLE, PA. (AP) - A NORTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA COUNTY JAIL GUARD HAS DIED AFTER NEVER REGAINING CONSCIOUSNESS SINCE AN ALLEGED INMATE ATTACK LAST MONTH.
