A Pine Grove man’s truck was heavily damaged after a crash Monday morning. A lawsuit filed by two former employees against Schuylkill County has been dismissed in federal court. John Phillips, the former head of Human Services, and Richard Kanish, a materials manager at Rest Haven, filed suit against Schuylkill County for more than $106-thousand-dollars in unused sick and severance pay they felt they were owed. The Pottsville Republican and Herald indicates that both men filed a federal lawsuit in September 2006 on the matter, which was dismissed. The latest filing, in December, sought over $91-thousand-dollars for Phillips, while Kanish was seeking over $13-thousand-dollars. At issue was the men’s contention that the monies were due to them upon retirement based on a policy statement in a personnel manual that was never approved by the Schuylkill County Commissioners nor the county Salary Board. Phillips and Kanish retired from county service in 2004.
