National and International News-Monday, Feb. 5th
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - It was about six degrees above zero but that didn't stop Colts fans in Indianapolis from standing shoulder to shoulder to celebrate their Super Bowl heroes. The Colts beat the Chicago Bears. For Bears fans, it's now 21 years of 'Wait 'til next year.'
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The Super Bowl provided a rare chance for U-S troops in Iraq to tune out the war for awhile. Many stayed up late into Monday to watch the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears and remind themselves of home. One soldier called it an "unofficial holiday."
CAPITOL HILL (AP) - Senate Democrat Dianne Feinstein says it would be a "terrible mistake" for Republicans to block a vote today opposing President Bush's troop increase in Iraq. But a top Republican, John McCain, says the resolution undermines national security.
UNDATED (AP) - States from the upper Midwest to the East Coast are in the deep freeze this morning. Temperatures across northern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota are in the 20-below-zero range. There's a wind chill warning in the Chicago area, where it feels like minus-35. And there's snow in Michigan and upstate New York.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - The bad news about a group of endangered whooping cranes thought to have died in Central Florida's severe storms has been tempered a little. Experts think a radio signal means one of the 18 birds may have survived. They were led south by ultralight aircraft.
