BUTLER, Pa. (AP) - A Butler County woman and her daughter have been killed after their car failed to negotiate a curve on a snowy road yesterday evening. State police say 58-year-old Maureen Schmidt of Chicora, and 35-year-old Charity Schmidt were pronounced dead at the scene on Route 38 in Center Township.

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - The state has issued a non-coal surface mining permit to New Enterprise Stone and Lime to mine high-quality, aggregate limestone at a new quarry in Westmoreland County. The state Department of Environmental Protection says New Enterprise will remove 49 acres of limestone within a 77-acre quarry along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Donegal Township.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh novelty supplier and a Georgia retailer have sued Louis Vuitton Malletier, arguing the fabric bags they sell and distribute do not violate the French bag maker's trademark. J. Marcus Wholesaler of Pittsburgh and The Paradies Shops of Atlanta say their federal lawsuit filed yesterday was in response to Louis Vuitton's claim that the bags violate its exclusive Damier design.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Beaver County man is accused of giving his ex-girlfriend a gift-wrapped package containing the severed head of a kitten. Pittsburgh Police yesterday charged 30-year-old Benjamin Gregory of Aliquippa with stalking and cruelty to animals.
