Man Charged For Public Drunkenness
A Port Carbon man was charged by State Police over the weekend for causing a disturbance at a public facility. According to reports, 45 year old John Miller was at the Port Carbon library after 2 p.m., apparently intoxicated. Troopers were called and detained the suspect.
Snow Covered Roadway Leads To Crash
Snow covered roads led to a downed utility pole on Sunday morning in North Manheim Township. State Police at Schuylkill Haven say the unidentified driver, perhaps operating a Chevy Blazer, apparently slid into the utility pole on Second Mountain Road, shearing it off. The top portion of the pole fell onto the roadway and blocked part of the road, forcing it to be shut down for several hours for cleanup. The crash took place around 3:30 AM Sunday.
Rollover Accident On I-81 In Kline Township
Slippery roadways contributed to a crash on Interstate 81 around mile marker 138. A Toyota driven by Philip Covell of Vienna, Virginia was crossing a bridge in the northbound lanes when it hit a patch of ice and spun out of control. The car left the road and skidded about 120 feet through the grass in the median. Covell and his passenger, 14 year-old Leanna Covell, w2ere transported to Hazleton General Hospital for treatment.
PennDOT Continues Work Projects On County Roads
PennDOT District 5 Safety Press Officer Sean Brown reports that road work will be going on this week on Dark Water Road between Burma Road and Route 61; Lake Road between Pine Grove and Cressona; Main Street in North Union Township; Route 339 between Brandonville and the county line; Route 895 between Andreas and New Ringgold; Route 209 between Port Carbon and Middleport; I-81 southbound between Exit 134 and Exit 124; and I-81 northbound between the Lebanon County line and Exit 104. Motorists are advised that they may encounter lane restrictions and delays in these areas.
