State police at Schuylkill Haven said a Kutztown truck driver escaped injury when the vehicle he was driving crashed at Route 61 and Rolling Mill Road, Route 895, in West Brunswick Township at 6:25 a.m. Friday. Troopers said Jerome Schweitzer was driving a truck-tractor hauling a set of double semi-trailers west on Route 895. He stopped at a red light at the intersection, intending to turn left onto Route 61 south. Schweitzer turned at a speed too fast for his vehicle, and the second trailer rolled over onto its right side, crushing a guiderail, troopers said, adding that the man drove for about 125 feet before coming to a stop. Schweitzer was not hurt and was able to drive the truck and one of the trailers away from the scene while the second trailer was placed on its wheels and towed away. Troopers said Schweitzer will be cited for driving at an unsafe speed and for overturned vehicles and that Deer Lake-West Brunswick Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
