MOYER FILES APPEAL

AS EXPECTED ONE OF THE TWO FORMER SHENANDOAH POLICE OFFICERS WHO EARLIER THIS WEEK WAS SENTENCED TO 3 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON HAS FILED AN APPEAL. FORMER LIEUTENANT WILLIAM MOYER ASKED THE 3RD CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS TO OVERTURN HIS CONVICTION OF LYING TO F-B-I AGENTS AND HIS PRISON TERM BY JUDGE A. RICHARD CAPUTO. ATTORNEY'S FOR MOYER GAVE NO REASON OR EXPLANATION FOR THE APPEAL. MOYER AND FORMER POLICE CHIEF MATTHEW NESTOR WERE BOTH CONVICTED ON WEDNESDAY FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT OF FALSIFYING POLICE REPORTS AND OBSTRUCTING THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE BEATING DEATH OF 25 YEAR OLD LUIS ZUVALA OF SHENANDOAH IN 2008.

HAMBURG MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

A HAMBURG MAN WAS ARRESTED THURSDAY AND CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A JUVENILE OVER AN EIGHT YEAR PERIOD. STATE POLICE IN SCHUYLKILL HAVEN ARRESTED 44-YEAR-OLD DAREN LEVAN JUST AFTER 1PM. TROOPERS TELL US THE ALLEGED ACTS OCCURRED FROM FEBRUARY 2003 TO APRIL 2011 IN SOUTH MANHEIM TOWNSHIP. LEVAN WAS SENT TO SCHUYLKILL COUNTY PRISON ON $100,000 BAIL.

FORMER CREDIT UNION EMPLOYEE ADMITS STEALING MORE THAN $58K

A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF HIDDEN RIVER CREDIT UNION IN POTTSVILLE ADMITTED THURSDAY TO STEALING MORE THAN $58,000 FROM THE COMPANY BETWEEN JANUARY 2007 AND FEBRUARY 2010. THE REPUBLICAN HERALD REPORTS, 31-YEAR-OLD JENNIFER DOYLE OF PORT CARBON PLEADED GUILTY IN SCHUYLKILL COUNTY COURT AND COULD FACE A MAXIMUM POSSIBLE PRISON SENTENCE OF SEVEN TO FOURTEEN YEARS. DOYLE WILL BE SENTENCED AT A FUTURE DATE AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY ZONING BOARD POSTPONES AIRPORT HEARING

THE SCHUYLKILL COUNTY ZONING BOARD POSTPONED A HEARING AND ANY ADDITIONAL TESTIMONY REGARDING A CARGO AIRPORT PROPOSED FOR NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL COUNTY. ACCORDING TO THE REPUBLICAN HERALD THE BOARD WAS SCHEDULED TO RECONVENE YESTERDAY TO HEAR ADDITIONAL TESTIMONY ON THE APPLICATION OF GLADSTONE PARTNERS LP BUT DECIDED TO PUT THE MATTER ON HOLD. THE DECISION WAS MADE AFTER AN APPEAL FILED MAY 25TH BY EAST UNION TOWNSHIP TO THE COUNTY COURT ASKING THAT IT OVERTURN THE DECISION MADE BY THE ZONING BOARD THAT IT WILL DECIDE ON THE SPECIAL EXEMPTION.


DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR PROPERTY TAX/RENT REBATE PROGRAM

WASHINGTON (AP) - ECONOMISTS EXPECT THE JOBS REPORT FOR MAY, WHICH WILL BE RELEASED THIS MORNING, WILL BE BLEAK. OTHER REPORTS ON THE ECONOMY EARLIER THIS WEEK IMPLY THAT GROWTH IS SLOWING. SOME ECONOMISTS HAVE REDUCED THEIR PREDICTIONS FOR JOB GROWTH LAST MONTH TO FEWER THAN 100,000 JOBS. THAT WOULD BE A SHARP DROP FROM THE

TUCSON, ARIZ. (AP) - A HUGE WILDFIRE IN SOUTHEASTERN ARIZONA HAS FORCED EVACUATIONS IN THREE SMALL COMMUNITIES. IT'S UNCLEAR HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE FLED, BUT IT'S SAID TO BE IN THE DOZENS. THE FIRE,WHICH IS FANNED BY STRONG WINDS, HAS CHARRED 63 SQUARE MILES OF FOREST LAND. FIRE OFFICIALS SAY CONTAINMENT SO FAR IS ZERO.
