JOULWAN ROOM FUNDRAISER UNDERWAY
He was an immigrant's son, who rose to the highest pinnacle in the United States military. Now, General George Joulwan will be honored and remembered for all to see at the Schuylkill County Historical Society. A $65 thousand dollar fundraising effort has already raised about a third of that goal, to preserve and display the more than 350 items donated by the former NATO Supreme Commander several years ago. Commissioner Chairwoman Mantura Gallagher, a co-chair of the fundraising effort with Judge John E. Jones the Third, comments about the exhibits significance:

Donations to the Joulwan Exhibit are welcomed in any size, and can be mailed to the Schuylkill County Historical Society at 305 North Centre Street, Pottsville. Society President Dave Derbes hopes to have the exhibit fully up and running by 2011. A reception is planned for later this year to display the items donated by General George Joulwan over his illustrious career.
SERIOUS CRASH ON ROUTE 309
As many as six people were injured in a crash on Route 309 in West Penn Township Monday afternoon. Police report that a van was traveling north in the passing lane and collided with a vehicle that was pulling out of a parking lot. While we don't know identities as yet, we do know that at least two people were ejected from the van. Those individuals and a third person were flown from the scene to area trauma centers. Three other people suffered other injuries and were taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital for treatment. Authorities are expected to release more details later today.
AUBURN MAN CHARGED WITH COLLECTING CHILD PORN
An Auburn area man is jailed after being charged with possessing child porn by a federal grand jury. According to the Republican Herald, 53 year old Carl Benson is charged with receiving and distributing images, movies and videos of child pornography. The grand jury report indicates that Benson used his computer to receive and distribute the kiddie porn over a four year period. Judge Malachy Mannion ordered Benson to prison until his trial can be held. Reports indicate that Benson could see a minimum of 15 years in prison if convicted.
HAVEN GIRL, TOWER CITY MAN FOUND, ANOTHER STILL MISSING
A Schuylkill Haven girl, reported missing by her family late last week, has been found and doing okay, according to a family member. 17 year old Alexis Gehring went missing last Thursday. A Tower City man, reported missing May 30th, also has returned home without incident. The search for a Pottsville man, Michael Hossler is still ongoing. Hossler, 27, was last seen on Saturday at World War Two weekend at Reading Airport, dressed in a World War Two uniform. If anyone has information about Hossler's whereabouts, please contact Schuylkill Haven state police at 593-2000.
WEEKEND BURGLARY
An electrical contractor is the victim of burglary after a weekend incident. According to state police, someone entered a locked storage trailer owned by BJ Baldwin Electric, Route 61 Deer Lake between Saturday and Sunday. The thieves took several rolls of cable and hand coils, then fled the scene. The investigation continues.
COST STUDY COMMISSION NEARING END OF WORK
The Senate Government Management and Cost Study Commission is nearing completion of its work. Hanson Quickel has more from the State Capitol with State Senator David Argall, the committee chairman.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania mayor is questioning a study that found it would be too costly to restore passenger rail service to the area. Easton Mayor Sal Panto Junior says he'll form a task force to further study the issue. The study found a line from High Bridge, New Jersey to Allentown would cost $659 million and lose up to $11.7 million a year.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Campus police say a Penn State graduate student was trapped in an elevator for about seven hours over the weekend because of a power outage. A university spokeswoman says the elevator did not need repair but had to be reset. She says emergency phones are being installed in all 315 campus elevators, but so far only 150 have them.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania regulators have ordered a company whose natural gas well spewed explosive gas and polluted water for 16 hours last week to halt all drilling in the state. Governor Ed Rendell says the order against EOG Resources will stand until investigators finish their probe and the company makes needed changes.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man being tried for murder in the death of a Philadelphia police officer has told the judge he'd rather be executed than be represented by his court-appointed legal team. Thirty-five-year-old Eric Floyd made the comment during jury selection yesterday. The judge rejected his request and said he was being irrational and may not represent himself.
LIMA, Peru (AP) - A Peruvian police spokesman says the man who long has been the prime suspect in the disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway in 2005 has now confessed to killing a young woman in Lima. Police Col. Abel Gamarra told The Associated Press late Monday that Van der Sloot admitted under questioning by police that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores last week.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration is pressing BP to step up the pace of paying damage claims to people and businesses harmed by the Gulf oil spill. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen didn't hesitate when asked what the company needed to do better. He said BP needs to improve its performance in the damage claims department.
CLEBURNE, Texas (AP) - Authorities in Texas are investigating a natural gas explosion that killed a utility worker. Officials are trying to find out how a utility crew in north Texas hit a large
natural gas line yesterday, sending a massive fireball into the area. Johnson County emergency management coordinator Jack Snow says officials want to know if the gas line was marked before the blast.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Months after he signed the massive health care overhaul into law, President Barack Obama is still trying to sell it to people. Obama will pitch the bill to senior citizens in Maryland later today at a televised event. The White House has organized several such meetings, at which senior citizens can listen by phone and ask questions.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Two-term Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas hopes to avoid being the next incumbent that goes down to defeat. The Democrat never got less than 55 percent of the vote in the two times she was elected previously. But in last month's primary, Lincoln was ten points below that, forcing her into today's runoff with Lt. Gov. Bill Halter.
