PENN STATE SCHUYLKILL HOSTED THIS WEEK'S COMMISSIONERS' MEETING IN PROCLAMATION OF ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY. ESTABLISHED AS AN AFFORDABLE, POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL FACILITY IN 1934 AT THE BUNKER HILL BUILDING IN
POTTSVILLE, PENN STATE SCHUYLKILL HAS GROWN TO A 42 ACRE CAMPUS WITH OVER1000 STUDENTS. THE COMMISSIONERS SHARED THEIR APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN THE SUCCESS AND EDUCATIONAL DEDICATION OF THE FACILITY.
THE INTEROPERABLE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS GRANT AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED ON THE BEHALF OF EAST CENTRAL COUNTER TERRORISM TASK FORCE AND THE PA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY IN THE AMOUNT OF $116,482. FUNDING FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY WILL BE ULITLIZED FOR PLANNING, TRAINING, EXCERCISES AND PERSONNEL ACTIVITIES. THE COMMISSIONERS ALSO MOVED TO PETITION FOR CONSERVATORSHIP THE DARKWATER PROPERTY ON RT 61. THIS PROPERTY HAS BEEN ABANDONED AND DILAPIDATED FOR OVER A DECADE. THE HOPE IS THAT NEW INTERESTS WILL SPARK ON THIS PRIME REAL ESTATE LOCATION ONCE THE DEMOLITION HAS TAKEN PLACE. SCHUYLKILL COUNTY COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS WAS APPROVED A GRANT APPLICATION SUBMISSION TO THE PA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS FOR $6,573.
