ST GEORGES CHURCH

ABOUT TWO DOZEN SUPPORTERS OF ST GEORGE'S CHURCH, SHENANDOAH RECITED THE ROSARY WEDNESDAY MORNING AT THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE BEFORE A HEARING TO DECIDE THE FATE OF THE HISTORIC BUILDING. ONE PARISHONER IS STILL SHAKEN THREE YEARS AFTER ST GEORGES WAS CLOSED:

PARISHONER

AT THE INJUNCTION HEARING, JUDGE CYRUS PALMER DOLBIN DENIED THE INJUNCTION OF SEVERAL PARISHONERS TO STOP DEMOLITION OF THE CHURCH. JUDGE DOLBIN QUESTIONED WHETHER THE COURT HAD JURISDICTION TO RULE IN THE MATTER AND, WHETHER THE PARISHONERS HAD STANDING TO ASK FOR THE INJUNCTION AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND THE UNITED STATES TO PRESERVE HISTORIC ITEMS. MONIES REPORTEDLY WERE DONATED TO A BUILDING FUND FOR ST GEORGES EVEN AFTER THE DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWN CLOSED IT IN 2006. THE PLAINTIFFS THINK IT DOES. JUDGE DOLBIN ALLOWED FOR THE LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR, AUDRIUS BRUZGA TO BE DEPOSED, AND BRIEFS PREPARED ABOUT THE MONEY ISSUE. DIOCESAN OFFICIALS CONTEND THAT THE BISHOP HAS SOLE AUTHORITY TO DECIDE REAL ESTATE MATTERS, NO MATTER WHAT. OFFICIALS WOULDN'T SAY EXACTLY WHEN DEMOLITION WILL BEGIN, ACCORDING TO MATT KERR, ALLENTOWN DIOCESE SPOKESMAN:
