060908DM A TWO VEHICLE CRASH SENDS A BARNESVILLE MAN TO THE HOSPITAL
A BARNESVILLE MAN SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES IN A TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AROUND 3 PM SATURDAY AFTERNOON.ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE AT FRACKVILLE 61 YEAR OLD JOHN HERRING WAS TRAVELING EAST ON BITTNER ROAD IN RUSH TOWNSHIP WHEN A VEHICLE TRAVELING WEST SIDE SWIPED HIS VEHICLE.38 YEAR OLD STEVEN QUINN SR. OF FRACKVILLE WAS TRAVELING WEST AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE AROUND A RIGHT CURVE WHEN HE CROSSED INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE AND STRUCK HERRING VEHICLE.AFTER THE IMPACT QUINNS VEHICLE TRAVELED ABOUT 100 FEET COMING TO REST ALONG THE ROADWAY.HERRING TRAVELED ABOUT 50 FEET BEFORE COMING TO REST.HERRING WAS TRANSPORTED TO ST LUKES MINERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL QUINN AND HIS PASSENGER 55 YEAR OLD DIANNE BOCEKOWSKI OF FRACKVILLE WERE UNINJURED AND INVOLVED WERE WEARING THEIR SEATBELTS.TRAFFIC CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST QUINN.

NO ONE WAS INJURED IN A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT SATURDAY ON EAST MOUNTAIN ROAD.ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE AT SCH HAVEN 20 YEAR OLD MICHAEL HERB JR OF ASHLAND WAS TRAVELING WEST ABOUT 5PM ON EAST MOUNTAIN ROAD WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE AROUND A CURVE.HERB TRAVELED OFF THE ROADWAY STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT AND TURNED ONTO ITS ROOF.HERB AND THE FRONT PASSENGER AN 16 YEAR OLD BOY FROM HEGINS WERE WEARING THEIR SEATBELTS TWO OTHERS WERE NOT.POLICE SAID TRAFFIC CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST HERB.

A LUZERNE COUNTY WOMAN WAS KILLED SUNDAY IN A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 81.POLICE SAY THAT 21 YEAR OLD NICOLE SPENCER OF DALLAS DIED WHEN SHE LOST CONTROL OF HER 2003 JEEP CHEROKEE IN THE RIGHT SOUTHBOUND LANE OF INTERSTATE 81 NEAR MILE MARKER 104 ABOUT 10:55 AM. AFTER LOSING CONTROL SPENCER CROSSED INTO THE LEFT LANE AND DROVE INTO THE MEDIAN ROLLING THE JEEP ONTO ITS SIDE.WITNESSES TOLD POLICE THEY SAW SPENCERS VEHICLE AHEAD OF THEM IN THE RIGHT CURVE AFTER IT HAD ENTERED THE MEDIAN.POLICE SAID WITNESSES DID NOT SEE OTHER VEHICLES IN THE AREA AND THE JEEP DID NOT SHOW SIGNS OF A COLLISION.IT APPEARED SPENCER WAS ONLY PARTIALLY WEARING HER SEATBELT WITH THE SHOULDER BELT BEHIND HER.INTERSTATE 81 SOUTHBOUND AT THE TREMONT EXIT WAS CLOSED FOR ABOUT THREE HOURS.POLICE ASK ANYONE WHO SAW THE CRASH TO CALL 717-865-2194

ACCORDING TO POLICE AT FRACKVILLE SOMETIME EARLY FRIDAY MORNING SOMEONE ATTEMPTED TO BREAK INTO A BARN ON STONY LANE IN EAST BRUNSWICK TOWNSHIP.A VEHICLE WAS SCENE LEAVING THE SCENE THAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A SMALL RED OR MAROON VEHICLE.THE BARN IS OWNED BY DEBORAH DECINDIO OF NEW RINGDOLD.ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ARE ASKED TO CALL STATE POLICE AT FRACKVILLE AT 874-5300
060908 SECTION OF ROUTE 209 IS CLOSED FOR HOLE REPAIRDMA ONE BLOCK SECTION OF ROUTE 209 IN LANSFORD WILL BE CLOSED DUE TO THE DISCOVERY OF A VOID IN THE ROAD SATURDAY.TRAFFIC ON ROUTE 209 IS BEING DETORED FROM THE STATE ROAD ONTO BIRCH STREET FOR ONE BLOCK AND IS THEN LOOPED BACK TO 209.THE HOLE SHOULD BE FIXED AND OPEN TO TRAFFIC BY MIDDAY TUESDAY ACCORDING TO LASFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL PRESIDENT BOB GAUGHAN BE HE SAID THAT COULD CHANGE DEPENDING ON HOW THE ROAD WORK PROGRESSES.THE LARGE OVAL SHAPED HOLE UNDERGROUND MEASURES 15 FEET BY 8FT AND BOROUGH OFFICALS DECLARED IT AN EMERGENCY SITUATION AND HIRED A COALDALE BASED EXCAVATOR TO START WORK ON THE STREET.THE ACTION ALLOWED THE BOROUGH TO BYPASS STATE LAWS WHICH WOULD NORMALLY REQUIRE IT TO SEEK BIDS.THAT PORTION OF ROUTE 209 IS HEAVILY TRAVELED AND MOSTLY RESIDENTIAL.GAUGHAN SAID THERE IS NO THREAT TO ANY HOMES IN THE AREA AFFECTED BY THE HOLE.IT IS UNSURE WHO WILL FOOT THE BILL FOR THE PROJECT SINCE IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THE BOROUGH WILL FIND OUT HOW THE VOID FORMED.
