DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Bucks County has one of the fastest growing populations in Pennsylvania, and that has led to an increase in the number of prisoners who need to be incarcerated. The county jail has reached its capacity of 715 inmates, so later this month minimum-security inmates will be housed in a temporary unit. Commissioner Sandy Miller says a long-range plan for easing overcrowding is in the works. Miller says at some point in time the county may have to add on additional wings or buildings. But for the immediate situation there's no need to do so. The unit is very similar to portable classrooms that you would find outside a school. It has bunks in a dorm-style setting, with showers and bathroom facilities. The cost to the county is less than one million dollars.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A ribbon-cutting was held yesterday for Philadelphia's long-awaited Underground Railroad Museum in Fairmount Park. With songs, prayers, a Buffalo Soldiers parade, and people dressed in period costumes, the new museum was officially opened at
Belmont Mansion. The American Women's Heritage Society has spent more than two decades restoring the mansion. Many exhibits have yet to arrive. But when completed and open to
the public on June First, the museum will document the importance of the Underground Railroad in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, and tell the story of the Peters Family, the original
owners of the Belmont Mansion.
EAGLEVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A program called "Chicken and Porn" is on the menu today at a Pennsylvania church. The program is aimed at addressing the problems that pornography
causes in families and getting help for those who need it. Brian Akamine is associate pastor at Fairview Village Church in Eagleville. He says sometimes people think it's an inappropriate
topic at church, but he says pornography is affecting marriages and relationships. The church has teamed up with the online anti-porn site x-x-x-church-dot-com for the program. Doug Moister, a youth pastor, says pornography is often a topic in counseling.
