WASHINGTON (AP) - A bell at the Washington National Cathedral is to toll 38 times this morning for Gerald Ford, the 38th president who died last week. A national funeral is being held this morning. President Bush and others will issue tributes. Ford will be buried tomorrow in his home state of Michigan.
DENVER (AP) - Colorado authorities say they still don't have a motive in Monday's shooting death of Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams. His stretch Hummer was hit by gunfire after a New Year's Eve party and dispute. Police say they don't know whether Williams was the target.
HOUSTON (AP) - The punishment phase in the Texas retrial involving the nation's deadliest smuggling incident resume this morning. Jurors will decide whether to execute trucker Tyrone Williams or send him to prison. Williams has been convicted in the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants in his sweltering trailer in 2003.
UNDATED (AP) - Pilots are searching for stranded travelers in snowbound Kansas and Colorado. Special equipment is being used to locate livestock. Authorities are trying to avoid a repeat of a 1997 blizzard that killed up to 30-thousand head at a cost of 28 million dollars.
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Soldiers and police are patrolling key areas of Bangkok as tourists return to the Thai capital's streets. New Year's Eve was marred by bomb blasts the government blames on supporters of the overthrown prime minister. At least three people died in the attacks.
