CAIRNS, Australia (AP) - Steve Irwin, the animal-loving,daredevil outdoorsman known as The Crocodile Hunter, has been killed by a stingray. It happened today while he was filming an underwater documentary in Australia. A friend says Irwin died doing what he loved best.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Two NATO soldiers have been killed and several more injured in Afghanistan. A soldier identified as a Canadian was killed when NATO jets accidentally strafed his unit's position. The other soldier was among five people killed when a car bomb went off as a NATO convoy passed by.
WASHINGTON (AP) - A Syracuse University research group reports a sharp drop-off in the prosecution of terrorism cases. In one recent period, federal attorneys declined to prosecute nine out of ten cases referred by investigators. One expert says it's in keeping with the fact that despite the hype, terrorism is actually very rare.
UNDATED (AP) - Parts of the U-S Southwest could be in for one-to-three inches of rain today, courtesy of what was once Hurricane John. The Mexican storm is now just a depression but rain from it could cause flash floods and mudslides.
NEW YORK (AP) - Who is Benjamin Becker? He's the young German who knocked off Andre Agassi yesterday at the U-S Open in the final pro match of the American's 21-year career. Agassi got a four-minute standing ovation. Becker has another challenge today:he faces former U-S Open champ Andy Roddick.
